Developing strategies for Gender Equality and Social Inclusion

At Bodmando, advancing Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) is integral to our mission. We are committed to empowering women, girls, persons with disabilities, refugees, and other marginalized groups by addressing structural inequalities that hinder their full participation in development. Our strategies aim to foster integrity, enhance inclusive governance, and promote responsive institutions that reflect the needs and aspirations of all individuals—especially those at risk of exclusion.

Our Commitment

As part of our organizational objectives, we support communities and institutions in designing responsive strategies that champion social justice and equality. This includes empowering marginalized voices to demand accountability and take part in building transparent systems that work for everyone.

Crafting Theories of Change & Indicators

We work closely with partners to develop comprehensive Theories of Change (ToCs) and a set of quantitative and qualitative indicators that measure progress toward gender equality and social inclusion.

Our indicators track outcomes such as:

  • Shifts in social norms and attitudes toward inclusion

  • Women’s participation in leadership and decision-making

  • Access to basic services and economic opportunities for vulnerable groups

  • Reduction in gender-based violence and discriminatory practices

We apply evidence-driven and participatory methodologies to:

  • Conduct Contextual Analysis: Identify the root causes of gender inequality and social exclusion based on social, economic, and political contexts.

  • Design Inclusive Interventions: Co-create localized solutions that are sustainable and responsive to the realities of those most affected.

  • Support Policy Influence: Inform inclusive policy development and advocacy efforts to institutionalize change.

  • Monitor & Evaluate Impact: Track progress using tools that combine both numbers and narratives, ensuring inclusive development outcomes are visible and accountable.

Inclusive Development in Practice

Our work ensures that everyone—including people with disabilities, women and girls, orphans, and refugees—can access the benefits of development programmes. By applying rights-based and equity-focused approaches, we help shape policies, projects, and institutional cultures that prioritize dignity, fairness, and opportunity for all.

Recommendations for Advancing Gender Equality and Social Inclusion

  • Integrate GESI from Project Design: Inclusion should begin at the ideation stage, with context-specific analysis to inform interventions.

  • Build Institutional Capacity: Train stakeholders on gender and social inclusion tools and practices.

  • Fund Inclusion Strategically: Allocate sufficient resources for mainstreaming GESI across all programs and services.

  • Strengthen Community Ownership: Engage excluded groups in decision-making processes to enhance sustainability and relevance.

UN Women

To achieve sustainable development, women and marginalized groups must be at the center of the process—not on the sidelines
